Did Austin pave the way? Is Justin Timberlake moving to Norwalk, as in CT?

Well it is April 1st, but we don’t believe this is an April Fools’ Day hoax. The headline “Justin Timberlake moving to Norwalk” broke a few days ago. In an interview, JT proclaimed that he was “tired of the L.A. lifestyle” and was looking for a change in life.

“I just want to slow things down a bit and get away from the crazy, hectic life in L.A. I’ve visited the Norwalk area a few times over the years and the people there are real… they’re genuine and pretty friendly too and I think those are the things that are most important in deciding where to live,” Timberlake said.

So, how did unassuming Norwalk, CT get on the map? Well, we know Austin McChord as the “master of disaster”, a pioneer in the realm of business continuity. McChord got where he is by having a vision–a vision to buck the norm and provide small businesses with the type of backup that was previously only available to big corporations for a big bill.

Now, it appears Datto is leading the way in more than just business continuity. A native to Connecticut, that’s exactly where Austin McChord wanted to build his empire after graduating from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2009 with a degree in bioinformatics. He wasn’t wooed by the glamour and glitz of Silicon Valley. He had a vision for the future and knew there was nowhere to build it, but back home in Norwalk. And the future appears to be bright and star-lined. In 2014 McChord and Datto did just under $100 million in revenue–up 32-fold since 2010. Today, Datto has well over 400 employees who support 5 million clients worldwide.
