Flood season can kill your business without the right technology

Is your business ready for the upcoming flood season? Be honest.

As we all already know,  Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this week. And for many of us, that means we are excited for spring to be on its way. However, with spring, comes showers or for the unlucky–flood season. As a result of the rain and melting snow, March and April are particularly prone to flooding across the country.  You may be thinking that a extreme flooding won’t happen to you or your business, but the truth is floods happen more often than any other natural disaster, according to FloodSmart.gov, a website run by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).

Of course, flood insurance has been around for decades and while you have be fortunate enough to have a policy when disaster hits, no insurance can replace the irreplaceable. Chairs, office supplies, even the office itself can be replaced. However, any data, servers, proprietary client information cannot.

So, what exactly is the risk to your business due to flooding and subsequent power outage? Review the following questions and answer them honestly.

  • Is your data secured, away from your flooded office?
  • Can your off-site data be recovered quickly?
  • Can you maintain business operations?

If you are unsure or answered “no” to any of these questions, your business needs a backup plan before flood season. While there is nothing you can do to stop Mother Nature, you can take action to protect your business—and for a lot less than you may think. The field of backup and recovery has seen a lot of advancements in the last few years. Now, enterprise-quality technology is available to businesses of all sizes and budgets.
