Are You Prepared For Database Backup and Recovery for Disaster?

Because many businesses want to focus on progress and higher profits, many are at first reluctant to give a thought to disaster recovery until they have no choice. Still, the best strategy for database backup and recovery for disaster is backing up data before-the-fact. Over the past few years, companies have been switching to digital methods of data backup rather than the outdated tape backup method in order to recover their data quicker. Data can be lost in a variety of ways, and now the focus is to back up data frequently and adopt up-to-date-technology so companies can prevent the downtime caused by disasters.

A recent article by Network World explains the importance of database backup and recovery and how disasters can happy at any time. The article tells the story of John Brooks, whose law firm was damaged by an electrical fire but did recovered the data quickly because of his disaster recovery plan:

When the fire occurred, the firm restored the data using its primary vault in Philadelphia and made it available to attorneys and staff from a backup server until the IT team could get into the New York office and retrieve their servers. It was two weeks before the New York employees could resume working in the building, but work interruption was minimal since they could work remotely with full access to their digital workspaces and files.

Even if companies take the correct safety steps, they can never be sure that such a disaster won’t happen to them. One of the most important parts of Mr. Brooks’ database backup and recovery was that the down time was kept to a minimum, so the business did not suffer more by losing massive amounts of data or losing touch with clients. Taking the time to correctly backup data can save firms’ data and business operations even when there is something as bad as an electrical fire.
