Learn How To Successfully Measure Backup Strategies
What You Need to Know About Backup Strategies
How much do you rely on your business data? How long could you go without it? Much like car insurance or home insurance, many businesses don’t always feel the need for backup strategies – until it is too late. Protecting that main-stay of your business should be a priority. However, according to GFI Software, 53 percent of businesses don’t do daily backups and 23 percent claimed that it wasn’t important to do frequent backups. Amazingly enough, 10 percent of IT admins said the biggest reason that they didn’t is because there was too much data to back up.
Statistics such as these show that out of date or non-existent backup strategies are the norm in many businesses. But the reality is, in today’s business world, having a backup strategy is crucial. The occurrence of a data outage without a backup strategy can have your business down not only hours, but possibly days or weeks. The effects could be even farther reaching, with loss of business being the price paid. From a hard disk failure, a virus attack, or even theft, you can never plan when or how a data outage will occur. Even the big businesses have their issues. Such as the six day outage of Bank of America in 2011 that affected 28 million online customers. Or the four day outage of Amazon services that affected their services.
Having your business back up and running as quickly as possible depends on your backup strategies. If you have one in place, you can start within minutes, depending on the type of outage. To achieve this type of response, you have to have your data backed up. You can do this either locally, online or both. Your Computer Tricks recommends backing up everything locally. They also suggest you use online storage for essential content and content that you need to access from other places and devices. Full backups are not necessary each day. A full backup should be done the first time. However, you can then do incremental backups which compares any changes since the last backup.
If your business is playing the odds and not using a backup strategy, you are risking more than your data, you are risking the success of your business.
