Is Apathy With Data Recovery Problems Hurting Your Company?

Despite the technological improvements in the field, many find the apathy with data recovery problems that small businesses face stem from either a poor data recovery plan, or poor execution of it. Many companies still do not take the proper steps to secure their data, mainly because many believe that it hurts productivity, leading to data recovery problems.

recent survey conducted by Opinion Matters gives insight as to how small business managers view data backup. The results of the survey were disconcerting, considering how easy it is for small businesses to backup their data now. Unfortunately, according to the following statistics provided by the survey, most small businesses think data backup actually makes their business less productive and result in data recovery problems:

• 53% of respondents do not conduct daily backups
• 32% of IT administrators said they don’t conduct daily backups because it’s not an efficient task
• 23% of IT administrators said frequent data backup is unnecessary
• 10% of IT administrators said they have too much data for frequent backups
• 75% of employees said daily backups are disruptive to work productivity

An interesting aspect of the survey is that respondents were somewhat divided into to groups of reasoning for their infrequent data backups: one group thought there was not enough data to warrant a backup, while the other thought they have too much data to backup everyday. In both cases, these respondents thought that data backup was limiting their productivity and leading to data recovery problems.

Concerning respondents with a relatively small amount of data to backup, a probable solution to their data recovery problems are a better data backup service. A good service provider of data backup will make the process painless for the average small business, so they will no longer view it as a restraint on productivity.

But the other group, the respondents who have too much data to back up, is facing a much more serious risk. These companies shouldn’t look at it as too much data to backup, but rather too much data to lose. The only solution to this is to get professional advice to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their data backup practices.
